While surfing the web, we found a great site to help out with selecting deities.  Touting "more gods than you can shake a stick at", Godchecker.com is like the yellow pages of the deity world.  Their free 'Find-a-God' feature allows you to search for a God (or Goddess) by name, pantheon, gender, keyword ... the only limit is your imagination!
